PPM Calculator CA
Convert a part and a total into parts per million (ppm), percent, parts per billion and a ratio.
How it works
Enter the part (the amount of the substance) and the total it is contained in. The calculator returns parts per million, the equivalent percent, parts per billion, and the figure as a simple ratio.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate ppm?
Divide the part by the total and multiply by one million. 5 in 1,000 is (5 ÷ 1,000) × 1,000,000 = 5,000 ppm.
How do I convert ppm to percent?
Divide ppm by 10,000. So 5,000 ppm is 0.5%, because 1% equals 10,000 ppm.
What is the difference between ppm and ppb?
Parts per billion is a thousand times finer than parts per million: 1 ppm equals 1,000 ppb.
Is ppm the same as mg/L?
For dilute water solutions ppm is often treated as roughly equal to milligrams per litre, because a litre of water weighs about a kilogram. It is an approximation, not an exact identity.
PPM Calculator
Parts per million (ppm) is a way to express very small concentrations — common in water quality, air quality, chemistry and food safety. This calculator converts a part‑and‑total into ppm and related units instantly.
How ppm is calculated
ppm = (part ÷ total) × 1,000,000. One ppm means one unit of something in a million units of the whole.
Quick conversions
| Value | Equivalent |
|---|---|
| 1% | 10,000 ppm |
| 1 ppm | 0.0001% |
| 1 ppm | 1,000 ppb |
Where ppm is used
- Drinking‑water and pool chemistry readings.
- Air quality (CO₂, pollutants).
- Lab and food‑safety concentrations.
